The Waveney Sinfonia Musical Society was formed in 1978 and was the brainchild of Richard Featherstone. The aim was to give Waveney (a district in Suffolk, UK) an orchestra and to provide an opportunity for local young people to play with more mature musicians in an orchestra under a professional baton. The orchestra is based in Lowestoft and performs three times yearly (October, January and May).
AGM date: 26th September 2020
The lockdown in March meant the end of all live music for amateur and professional musicians.
Waveney Sinfonia have been performing to audiences in Lowestoft for the over forty years and the players are keen to return.
Despite the windy weather, on Thursday a wind quintet, from the orchestra, performed some of their repertoire in a shelter, just south of the Claremont pier.
Many visitors and passersby stopped for a while and cheered them along. The string section of the orchestra will be making their own comeback in September.
From The Chairman:
Hello Waveney Players,
I hope you are all well. I have been tasked with sending you an update from the team. First of all a big thank you to people who have been brave enough to submit a piece of music to Cecilia for the website/facebook page. Record on your phone and mail to email@example.com. (I found WeTransfer works well for large files and is free).
It is good to hear from friends and to keep contact with our players and audience. If you have not contributed yet, there is still time and a steady flow is better than a flash flood! So more contributions please.
Your committee is still working hard to find the way ahead for Waveney Sinfonia in this current situation. You will shortly be contacted by your fixers to see how you feel about playing as we consider the shape and form of the October concert.
On behalf of Michael and the rest of the committee
